War continued throughout the end of China’s Later Han Dynasty. Cao Cao, premier of the Later Han Dynasty, fought Lie Bei and Sun Quan’s forces, but suffered a major defeat at the Battle of Red Cliffs. The period marked the forming of the Three Kingdoms, comprising the states of Wei, Shu, and Wu. Though crushed, Cao Cao would not admit defeat, and planned for a comeback. Serving Cao Cao was Yang Xiu, whose skills were beloved, and achievements respected. However, despite their greatness, these two mighty souls had a duplicitous nature that resulted in disaster. In the end, it destroyed their relationship. Unable to escape the confines of human weakness, one of them will face an early death, and another will descend into suffering and despair.
