A huge balloon work of art 12 meters tall with the motif of a traditional Kokeshi doll by Yotta, who created the “Grain” exhibition at the Kyoto Botanical Garden at last year’s Festival.
The traditional Kokeshi from the six prefectures of Tohoku was said to have been in every home at one point in the past. These traditional Kokeshi dolls, with their simple, loveable and sometimes strange expressions are full of the forgotten aesthetic and compassion of Japan.
The “Hanako” costume was created to reconstruct field work from various parts of Tohoku, representing the patterns and shapes of these places.
